Vesta Wash offers exterior cleaning services in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. Roof discoloration caused by algae has been a prevalent issue in the United States and Canada for many years. The algae, specifically Gloeocapsa Magma, can give roofs a brown to black appearance, often mistaken for soot, dirt, moss, or tree droppings. This type of algae is airborne and tends to accumulate on roofing structures, gradually turning a white or light-colored roof into a dark hue. It is important to differentiate these algae discolorations from moss or tree droppings as they can lead to structural damage by feeding on the limestone filler in shingles.
